A right-handed pitcher in the Yankees organization, Bailey still lives in his native Lexington, where he graduated from Lexington Catholic before going on to the University of Louisville.

Last season, he played for Sioux City of the independent American Association. The Yankees purchased his contract in June and assigned him to Staten Island of the New York-Penn League.

Bailey finished second in the league and on his team with 32 appearances, going 3-2 with a 1.49 ERA and a pair of saves. He helped Staten Island to the league championship, posting a 1.42 ERA over three playoff appearances.

Over a stretch of 19 games during July and August, he did not give up an earned run.

He is due to report for spring training at Tampa, Fla., Feb. 20.
