He was selected by the Astros in the 14th round of the 2010 draft, out of Riverside High School in Greer, S.C. He made his pro debut that year with the Gulf Coast League Astros, hitting .301 with 10 RBI, 19 runs and six stolen bases over 42 games. Last year, he split time with the Greeneville Astros of the Appalachian League (60 games), the Tri-City ValleyCats of the New York-Penn League (5 games) and the Legends (14 games). Overall, he hit .323 with a homer, 43 RBI, 51 runs and 12 stolen bases.

Sun to watch: 3B Matthew Skole (6-4, 230, from Woodstock, Ga.) went 6-for-14 (.429) in Hagerstown’s season-opening four-game series. Included were two doubles, as he drove in seven runs and scored one. Like Scott, he bats left and throws right. The Nationals selected him in the fifth round of last year’s draft, out of Georgia Tech, where he clubbed 47 homers over three seasons. He made his pro debut with the Auburn Doubledays of the NYPL. He played 72 games, batting .290 with five homers, 48 RBI, 43 runs and a pair of stolen bases.

GreenJacket to watch: SAL all-star 3B Chris Dominguez (6-foot-3, 215 pounds, from Los Angeles) leads Augusta in homers (18), RBI (86), total bases (214) and games played (121). (All statistics are through Thursday.) Batting .216, Dominguez has 26 doubles among his 130 hits. He also has scored 71 runs and stolen 12 stolen bases. Selected by the Giants in the third round of last year’s draft, out of the University of Louisville, he broke into pro ball in 2009 by playing nine games for the Arizona League Giants and 47 games for the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes of the Northwest League. Over those 56 games combined, Dominguez hit .263 with 11 homers and 40 RBI. Baseball America ranked him No. 18 among Giants prospects coming into this season. At U of L, Dominguez twice was named Player of the Year in the Big East Conference and smacked a school-record 25 home runs in 2009. As a draft-eligible sophomore, he turned down the Colorado Rockies after being selected in the fifth round of the 2008 draft. The Giants signed him for $411,300.

Legend to watch: Monday’s starting pitcher, RH Jose Cisnero (6-3, 212 pounds, from Bajos de Haina, Dominican Republic), has been a solid contributor to the rotation all season. He shares the team lead with 23 starts, ranks second in innings pitched (114) and leads the staff in strikeouts (115). Having gone 3-4 with a 4.45 ERA before the all-star break, he is 3-2 with a 3.88 ERA since then. Cisnero is holding opponents to a .232 batting average. Signed by the Astros as a non-drafted free agent Dec. 6, 2007, Cisnero went 0-3 with a 3.10 ERA over 10 games (six starts) for the Dominican Summer League Astros in 2008. He made his U.S. debut last year, compiling a 4-2 record and 3.56 ERA over 13 starts for the Greeneville Astros of the Appalachian League. Combined over those two seasons, Cisnero struck out 98 and walked 41 over 84 2/3 innings.

Drive to watch: CF Reymond Fuentes (6-foot, 160 pounds, from Manati, Puerto Rico) is batting .281 with five homers 37 RBI, 53 runs scored and 35 stolen bases through 87 games. Selected by the Red Sox in the first round (28th overall) of last year’s draft, Fuentes signed for $1.134 million. A cousin of Mets CF  Carlos Beltran, the left-hander (batter/thrower) is the sixth Puerto Rican ever selected in a first round. He broke in to pro ball last year with the Gulf Coast League Red Sox, hitting .290 with a homer, 14 RBI, 16 runs and nine stolen bases over 40 games. He was ranked as the third-best prospect in the rookie league and, according to Baseball America, was the seventh-best prospect in the Red Sox’ organization coming into this season. Wrote BBA: “A track star in high school, he uses his quickness to make things happen on the bases and in center field, where he has Gold Glove potential. His swing is geared more for contact, ,but he has some power to his pull side and eventually could hit as many as 15 homers per  season. … Similar to Jacoby Ellsbury, Fuentes is a far better hitter at the same stage and projects as a better defender.” Hitting .277 at the all-star break, he is .292 since and, in 12 August games, is .391 (18-for-46).

Legend to watch: RHP Daniel Sarisky (6-1, 175, from Duluth, Ga.) has bolstered the bullpen after missing more than two months (mid-April through mid-July) due to a back injury. Over 17 games spanning only 18 1/3 innings, Sarisky is 2-0 with a 4.42 ERA, 13 strikeouts and eight walks. Eight of his nine appearances have come at home, where he notched both wins and has a 2.08 ERA. A 40th round draft pick in 2009, out of Oglethorpe University, Sarisky split last season between the Greeneville Astros of the Appalachian League and the Tri-City ValleyCats of the New York-Penn League, compiling a combined record of 2-1 with a 3.82 ERA, 41 strikeouts and 13 walks.

Player of the Week: Legends C Ben Heath is the SAL Player of the Week for the period that ended Sunday. In his first week since being promoted from Tri-City, Heath went 8-for-15 (.533) with three homers, a triple and 10 RBI, with a 1.267 slugging percentage. Three homers and seven RBI came in Friday against West Virginia. Heath, 21, was a fifth-round draft pick of the Astros in the June draft, out of Penn State University.

Power to watch: All-star RF David Rubinstein (6-foot-2, 190 pounds, from Fountain Valley, Calif.) is hitting .291 with a homer, 39 RBI and 44 runs scored trhough 91 games. He also has 29 doubles and 18 stolen bases. A 2008 11th round draft pick of the Pirates, out of Appalachian State, Rubinstein spent his first two pro seasons with State College of the New York-Penn League. In 2008, hit .249 with a homer and 14 RBI over 47 games. A year later, his average climbed to .267, with three homers and 36 RBI over 65 games.

Legend to watch: C Ben Heath (6-2, 220, from Martinsville, Va.) joined the Legends last Sunday to fill in for Rene Garcia, who is on the seven-day disabled list due to soreness in his right elbow. In his first three games with the Legends, Heath is 5-for-12 (.417), with two RBI and a run scored. Before joining the Lexington club, Heath hit .248 with six homers, 21 RBI and 20 runs scored over 37 games with the Tri-City ValleyCats of the NYPL. Selected by the Astros in the fifth round of the draft this year, Heath batted .369, with 19 homers, 57 RBI and 53 runs scored for Penn State University last spring. A second-team All-American and first-team All-Big Ten, Heath led the Nittany Lions in average, homers, RBI, runs, total bases (148), slugging (.747) and on-base percentage (.451), and tied for the team lead in doubles (16). His 19 homers set a school record.

Note: Yordany Ramirez also has joined the Legends, although not yet on the active roster. As he makes the transition from outfielder to pitcher, Ramirez will be throwing bullpen sessions and simulated games before being activated.

Over 30 games with Aberdeen, Flacco hit .250 with 16 RBI and 12 runs. The younger brother of Baltimore Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco, he was selected by the Orioles in the 31st round of the 2009 draft, out of the Community College of Baltimore County-Catonsville. Flacco played 65 games last season — 60 with the Bluefield Orioles of the Appalachian League and five with Delmarva — and hit a combined .263 with three homers, 35 RBI and 28 runs. Before turning pro, he missed two seasons of athletic competition due to a stress fracture in his back.

Legends to watch: C David “Bubby” Williams (6-0, 190, from Las Vegas, Nev.) joined the Legends on Thursday, taking the roster spot vacated when C Jordan Comadena was transferred to the Lancaster JetHawks of the California League. Williams, an 11th round draft pick of the Astros last year, hit .244 with five homers, 12 RBI and 14 runs scored over 25 games this season with the Greeneville Astros of the Appalachian League. Over 11 road games, Williams hit .429, but over 14 home games his average was .093. Drafted out of Crowder (Mo.) Community College, Williams played 39 games with Greeneville last year, hitting .202 with four homers, 16 RBI and 17 runs scored. A free swinger, over his 64 pro games, Williams has struck out 60 times while drawing five walks.

Through 91 games, Bumbry is hitting .272 with three homers, 31 RBI, 38 runs and nine stolen bases. Of his 88 hits, 35 have been for extra bases, including 23 doubles and nine triples. Bumbry broke in last season with the Aberdeen IronBirds of the New York-Penn League, batting .234 with a pair of homers and 10 RBI over 45 games.

Crawdad to watch: Sunday starter Robbie Ross (5-foot-11, 185 pounds, from Nicholasville) passed on the University of Kentucky and signed with the Rangers for $1.575 million after being selected in the second round of the 2008 draft. The former Lexington Christian Academy standout is tied for second in the SAL in wins (7), tied for third in innings pitched (64 1/3) and is ninth in ERA (1.96). In 11 starts, he has struck out 46, walked 14 and hit four batters. He is holding opponents to a .230 batting average and is the only Crawdad starter yet to allow a home run. Ross has a decision in all 11 games and has won six of his last seven. In five home games, he is 4-1 with a 0.30 ERA. Rated by Baseball America as the seventh-best prospect in the Rangers system, Ross will turn 21 on June 24. He earned all-star honors in the Northwest League last season with Spokane, going 4-4 with a 2.66 ERA over 15 starts, while striking out 76 and walking 17. He ranked second in the league in strikeouts per nine innings (9.2) and fourth in ERA.

Legend to watch: Sunday starter David Duncan (6-9, 230, from New Richmond, Ohio) has decisions in all four of his starts. A fifth-round draft pick out of Georgia Tech in 2008, he is coming off his worst outing of the season — Tuesday’s six-inning, five-run loss to West Virginia. After starting the season on the disabled list due to a sore arm, Duncan has struck out 13 and walked only one. He has given up five homers, but four have been solo shots and the other came with only one man aboard. Duncan split last season between Tri-City, Lexington and Lancaster, going a combined 4-14. With the Legends, Duncan was 4-4 with a 4.29 ERA, 52 strikeouts and nine walks over 56 2/3 innings.

Grasshopper to watch: SS Chris Wade (6-foot, 170 pounds, from Lexington) is hitting .254 since joining the team earlier this month. An 11th round draft pick last June, Wade played for Lexington Christian Academy and the University of Kentucky. Last summer, he hit .277 with 18 RBI, 24 runs and five stolen bases over 47 games with Jamestown of the New York-Penn League. He also went 1-for-5 in one game with the Gulf Coast League Marlins. Wade opened this season with High-A Jupiter of the Florida State League. He hit .164 with a homer, seven RBI and three runs over 19 games. Reassigned to Greensboro, he has a homer, six RBI and three stolen bases over 16 games.

Legend to watch: Robby Donovan (6-5, 230, from Royal Palm Beach, Fla.) comes into Friday’s start with a string of 17 scoreless innings. He has allowed two unearned runs over his last three starts (20 innings), all wins. Over four starts in May, he is 3-0 with a 1.44 ERA. Overall, he has pitched 48 innings over nine starts, with 24 strikeouts to 15 walks, while holding opponents to a .240 batting average. A 23rd round draft pick last year out of Stetson University, Donovan broke in with the Tri-City ValleyCats of the NYPL. He appeared in 19 games, including four starts, for Tri-City and finished 2-5 with four saves and a 3.74 ERA. He struck out 28 and walked 21.

Signed as a non-drafted free agent out of Texas Tech University, Ramos went 2-2 with nine saves and a 2.14 ERA over 25 games last season with the Jamestown Jammers of the New York-Penn League. Selected by the Astros in the ninth round of the 2008 draft, Cruz played for the Greeneville Astros of the Appalachian League the past two seasons. In 2008, he was 1-1 with a 2.28 ERA over seven starts. Last year, he finished 1-4 with a 6.75 ERA over 12 games, including 10 starts.

Flores has a pair of homers, 12 runs and a .378 on-base percentage. Signed by the Mets as a non-drafted free agent Aug. 6, 2007, Flores progressed from the rookie-league Kingsport Mets to the short-season Brooklyn Cyclones and a one-game showing with low-A Savannah in the 2008 season, earning rookie all-star honors from Baseball America. Last year, playing 125 games for the Sand Gnats, he hit .264 with three homers and 36 RBI, and was named to the Futures Game.

Last year, Hinze played 27 games for the Legends (.175-4-14) and 32 games with the Gulf Coast League Astros (.262-1-14). This month, he’s hitting .441 with runners on base, .455 with runners in scoring position.
