Over 27 games, Chapman is 22-for-80, with three doubles, 10 walks, five RBI, 10 runs and 14-for-17 in stolen-base attempts. Selected in the 30th round of last June’s draft, he attended Cal State San Bernadino, where he was a teammate of fellow Royals prospect Aaron Brooks. Chapman scored a school-record 60 runs as a freshman in 2010. He also tied the school record for home runs in a season (14), earned second-team All-West Region and, in 2012, won an ABCA West Region Gold Glove. Assigned to Idaho Falls of the Pioneer League last summer, he was the Chukars’ Player of the Year. He finished second in the league in stolen bases (25), third in triples (9), tied for fourth in runs (58), sixth in hits (88) and tied for ninth in doubles (9).

Selected in the fifth round of the 2011 draft, out of St. Mary’s High School in Stockton, Calif., where he also starred in football, he turned down a scholarship to Oregon and signed for $800,000. Rated by Baseball America as the No. 16 prospect in the Phillies system, and No. 20 by MLB.com, he made his pro debut last year with Williamsport of the New York-Penn League. He batted .233 for the Crosscutters, after starting his first month at .383. Notes Baseball America: “… He ran into some struggles that snowballed as he got down on himself. Walding is learning how to translate his tools into baseball ability, but his upside is significant. He has a sweet left-handed swing that generates natural backspin, and he projects to have above-average raw power as he grows into his broad-shouldered frame.”

Mills has struck out 19 and walked two while holding opponents to a .149 batting average. Selected in the 22nd round of the 2012 draft out of Tennessee-Martin, he set a UTM record with 30 appearances as a sophomore in 2011. As a junior, he struck out 74 over 89 innings, compiling a 3.94 ERA. As a high school athlete in Cunningham, Tenn., he was Male Athlete of the Year all four years at Montgomery Central. He made his pro debut last year with Idaho Falls of the Pioneer League, getting seven starts in 17 appearances. He finished 1-4 with three saves and a 4.62 ERA over 50 2/3 innings, with 50 strikeouts to 17 walks.

Shorebird to watch: 1B Christian Walker (6-0, 220, age 22, from Limerick, Pa., bats and throws right) shares the lead or has it outright for Delmarva in average (.360), games (24), runs (17), hits (31), total bases (44), walks (10), on-base percentage (.440) and OPS (.952). He is second on the team with 16 RBI and three home runs. A 2012 fourth-round draft pick out of South Carolina, Walker is rated by Baseball America as the 12th-best prospect in the Orioles system. He turned down the Dodgers when he was drafted in the 49th round out of high school, going on to win two NCAA titles with the Gamecocks. He tied the College World Series record for career hits (28), then signed with the Orioles for $349,000. He spent last season with Aberdeen of the New York-Penn League, batting .284 with two homers and nine RBI over 22 games.

Selected by the Red Sox in the ninth round of last June’s draft, Miller led Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo in batting (.354 over 56 games) while earning All-Big West Conference honors. Last summer, he played for the Lowell Spinners of the New York-Penn League, batting .261 over 66 games. He finished with a .337 on-base percentage, a homer, 15 RBI and 21 stolen bases in 24 attempts.

He is 11-for-42 (.262), with three doubles and two RBI. Selected by the Royals in the 20th round of the 2011 draft, he has stolen 60 bases in 63 career attempts as a pro, including a 17-for-17 start with the Surprise Royals of the Arizona League in 2011. A 2010 graduate of Jones County (Ga.) High School, he batted .474 with 49 stolen bases as a senior, and 145 thefts in his high school career. Gore attended Gulf Coast (Fla.) Community College one season, batting .330 with 51 steals in 54 attempts. Last year, with Burlington of the Appalachian League, he hit .256 while leading the league in runs (50) and steals (36-for-38), tied for fourth in walks (36) and ninth in on-base percentage (.379). Rated by Baseball America as “Fastest Baserunner” in the Royals system in 2012 and 2013.

Drive to watch: RHP Braden Kapteyn (6-foot-4, 225 pounds, from Lansing, Ill., age 23) is well known to fans of the University of Kentucky, where he was a two-way player on the mound and at first base. At UK, Kapteyn went 7-3 with eight saves and 91 strikeouts over 71 2/3 inning. He batted .300 in 2011, driving in 42 runs and scoring 42. A 15th round draft pick of the Red Sox in 2011, Kapteyn appeared in 12 games in 2011 and 19 games last year for the Lowell Spinners of the New York-Penn League, going a combined 0-1 with seven saves. In two relief outings this season, Kapteyn has yielded four runs over four innings, losing his only decision. He held opponents to a .176 batting average over 14 innings in 2011, .107 over 34 2/3 last year and .083 thus far this season.

Legend to watch: C Cameron Gallagher (6-2, 220, from Lancaster, Pa., 20, bats/throws right) is 9-for-23 (.391) through his first six games, with four doubles, an RBI and two runs. He also has gunned down four of seven runners trying to steal. A 2011 second-round draft pick of the Royals, out of Manheim Township (Pa.) High School, he batted .434 with four homers, 19 RBI, 29 runs and 10 stolen bases as a senior. In 2011, over 28 games with the Arizona League Royals and Idaho Falls of the Pioneer League, Gallagher hit .157 with two homers, nine RBI and eight runs. Last year, over 36 games with Burlington of the Appalachian League, he batted .276 with three homers, 15 RBI and 13 runs; he was rated the 20th-best prospect in the league. Gallagher’s father, Glenn, pitched in the Blue Jays organization after being selected in the third round of the 1981 draft. Cameron’s brother, Austin, was selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the third round of the 2007 draft.

Over 60 games with Tri-City, Gominsky batted .237 with 18 RBI, 35 runs and 12 stolen bases. At Mahtomedi (Minn.) High School, he also was a standout wide receiver in football.

Will Lamb

Crawdad to watch: Thursday starting pitcher Will Lamb (6-6, 180, b/t left, age 21, from Newport News, Va.) came into the season ranked by Baseball America as the 21st-best prospect in the Rangers system. Selected by Texas in the second round of the 2011 draft, after his junior year at Clemson University, he broke in by playing 12 games (seven starts) for the Spokane Indians of the Northwest League and four starts for the Crawdads. Combined, he finished 3-1 with a 2.75 ERA, 62 strikeouts and 31 walks over 56 innings. This season, at 5-8, 4.35  over 103 1/3 innings, Lamb has struck out 76 and walked 52. At the all-star break, he was 0-6 with a 4.93 ERA. Since then, he is 5-2 with a 3.96 ERA.

Over 228 games, he batted .321 for the Rebels, with 41 homers, 183 RBI and 185 runs scored.

Brandon Meredith

Legend to watch: OF Brandon Meredith (6-2, 230, 22, b/t right, from San Diego) is having a solid season, batting .284 with 15 homers, 48 RBI and 52 runs over 82 games. Included are 18 doubles, four triples and 156 total bases. He also has stolen 11 bases in 14 attempts, while compiling a .385 on-base percentage, .522 slugging and .906 OPS. For 16 games this month, Meredith is batting .310 with four homers, 13 RBI and 14 runs. Selected by the Astros in the sixth round of the 2011 draft out of San Diego State University, he played 35 games last year for Tri-City of the New York-Penn League. He wound up batting .244 with a homer, 10 RBI, 24 runs and seven stolen bases.

William Beckwith

Brave to watch: 1B William Beckwith (6-1, 235, B/T L/R, turns 22 Sunday, from Crawford, Miss.) leads Rome with 13 homers, 65 RBI and 96 hits. Batting .296 with a .363 on-base percentage, .485 slugging and .847 OPS, he is high on the team rankings with 44 runs, 22 doubles, 157 total bases and 14 stolen bases. Selected by Atlanta in the 21st round of the 2010 draft, out of George C. Wallace (Ala.) Community College, Beckwith played 21 games with the Gulf Coast League Braves that year, batting .243 with two homers, 18 RBI and eight runs. He played for Danville (Va.) last year, batting .282 with 11 homers, 45 RBI and 41 runs. He has been consistent throughout this season, reaching a high point in July when he batted .324 with six homers and 29 RBI over 28 games.

Last year, over 43 games, he went .245 wit six doubles, three triples, 15 RBI and 21 runs, adding 11 stolen bases. He was the GCL Astros Offensive Player of the Month last August.

Sun to watch: SAL all-star OF Caleb Ramsey (6-2, 215, age 23, bats/throws L/R; from Houston) is batting .298 through Monday, with five homers, seven doubles, seven triples, 44 RBI, 48 runs and 11 stolen bases. Over his last 10 games, Ramsey is 13-for-38 (.342), with a pair of three-hit games. Selected by the Nationals in the 11th round of the 2011 draft, out of the University of Houston, Ramsey broke into pro ball last summer with the Auburn Doubledays of the New York-Penn League. For 64 games, he batted .280 with a homer, 26 RBI 38 runs and 15 stolen bases. As a senior at Houston, he batted .318 and drove in 46 runs.

At 5-1, 4.72 overall, he has appeared in 14 games, including one in relief. Over 74 1/3 innings, Dufek has 59 and walked 20, holding opponents to a .277 batting average. Brent Keys

Grasshopper to watch: SAL all-star Brent Keys (6-1, 210, age 21, bats/throws L, from Simi Valley, Calif.) is batting .355 with four homers and 32 RBI through Saturday. He leads the Grasshoppers in average, runs (53), hits (89), stolen bases (15), on-base percentage (.427) and OPS (.893), and is second in total bases (117 games). Over 66 games and 251 at-bats, Keys has more walks (32) than strikeouts (22). Selected by the Marlins in the 17th round of the 2009 draft, out of Simi Valley High School, Keys broke in with the Gulf Coast League Marlins in 2009, then advanced to the NYPL’s Jamestown Jammers in 2010. He divided time last season between Jamestown and Greensboro. For three minor-league seasons leading into this year, Keys batted .282 with a homer, 61 RBI, 81 runs and 35 stolen bases in 158 games.

Murilo Gouvea

Legend to watch: RHP Murilo Gouvea (6-foot-2, 210 pounds, from Sao Paulo, Brazil) has become a force in the bullpen.  In addition to his 2-3 record, one save and 2.66 ERA, Gouvea leads the team with eight holds. All of his 26 appearances have come in relief, spanning 40 2/3 innings. He has notched 48 strikeouts to 11 walks, holding opponents to a .211 batting average. Although he has made 13 appearances each home and away, all of his decisions have come at home, where he has a 3.92 ERA. On the road, his ERA is 1.35. Gouvea has improved each month, posting a 4.11 ERA in April, 2.25 in May and 0.96 so far in June. Originally signed as free agent Nov. 17, 2006,  by the White Sox, he pitched for the Dominican Summer League White Sox in 2007, Bristol of the Appalachian League in 2008, Bristol, the SAL’s Kannapolis Intimidators and Greeneville Astros in 2009, the Tri-City ValleyCats of the New York-Penn League in 2010, and Tri-City and Lexington in 2011. Combined, he went 10-16 with three saves and a 5.09 ERA, striking out 292 and walking 116 over 252 2/3 innings. With the Legends last year, Gouvea was 1-3 with a 3.98 ERA in 30 relief appearances spanning 74 2/3 innings, with 83 strikeouts.

Jose Osuna

Power to watch: 1B Jose Osuna (6-2, 213, from Trujillo, Venezuela), batting .267, ranks fourth on the team in homers (4), RBI (29) and total bases (97). He also is tied for second in doubles (20) and is third in hits (65) and runs (34). Signed by the Pirates as an undrafted free agent for $275,000 in 2009, Osuna, 19, is rated by Baseball America as the 30th-best prospect in the Pittsburgh system. He hit .251 with 10 homers and 43 RBI in 64 games with the Venezuelan Summer League Pirates in 2010. Last year, he hit .331 with four homers and 32 RBI over 48 games with the Gulf Coast League Pirates, and went 2-for-8 (.250) in two games with the NYPL’s State College Spikes. Osuna, who bats and throws right-handed, is hitting .204 versus left-handed pitchers this season, .286 against righties.
