So you want to play baseball for the Cincinnati Reds?
Well, here’s your chance.
Such camps are how the Reds “discovered” Bryan Station High School and University of Kentucky infielder Doug Flynn. He not only went on to earn a pair of World Series rings with the Reds, but also a Gold Glove with the New York Mets.
There is no fee to try out. Players may choose any of the sites but should not plan on multiple tryouts.
Players must be between ages 16 and 22, and supply their own glove, spikes and uniform. Jeans and shorts are not acceptable for participants. All other equipment will be provided by the Reds, although catchers are welcome to bring their own gear.
All non-pitchers will field and throw from their positions and be timed in the 60-yard dash. Pitchers will throw a bullpen session.
Registration begins one hour before camp. Any Legion players must bring written permission to participate from the post commander or coach. Players under 21 must have a written release from a parent or legal guardian accepting full legal liability in order to workout. NO EXCEPTIONS, the Reds stress; the note must be a release of liability, not merely a permission slip to participate.
All camps begin at 10 a.m. The tryout camp schedule:
