Transylvania eliminates Jack Ebel’s position

Jack Ebel, associate athletics director at Transylvania, was fired by the university Thursday when his position was eliminated.
Sallie Showalter, interim director of communications, confirmed the move Friday.
A 1977 Transylvania graduate, Ebel was named Transy’s first swimming and diving head coach in 1978, a position he held for 28 years. He has also coached men’s and women’s tennis and founded the school’s summer All-Sports Program.
He was inducted into the Pioneer Athletic Hall of Fame in 2005 and was the national NAIA Swim Coach of the Year in 1999 and 2000. He coached 74 national All-American swimmers.
Ebel has also served as assistant director of the William T. Young Campus Center and taught physical education. He was named associate athletics director in 2013.
