Mark Peterson

Legend to watch: RHP Mark Peterson (6-foot, 201 pounds, age 22, from Raleigh, N.C.) made 18 relief appearances last season for Burlington of the Appalachian League. Over 31 innings, he struck out 19 and walked five, going 6-0 with a 1.16 ERA. He held the opposition to a .187 batting average. Signed as a non-drafted free agent last June 12 out of Radford University, he earned 4A all-state honors at Sanderson High School in Raleigh in 2008. He played for North Carolina-Greensboro in 2009 and Pitt Community College (N.C.) in 2010 before transferring to Radford. Peterson helped Pitt to the Junior College World Series, going 6-1 with a 3.47 ERA and 66 strikeouts over 58 innings. His father, Ralph, played basketball for North Carolina-Wilmington, where he was a teammate of current Kentucky coach John Calipari.
