UK track and field facility nears completion

The synthetic surface is in place and lanes have been marked at the University of Kentucky’s new outdoor track and field facility.

A bit of work remains, including the addition of a finish line, lane markings at the beginning of the sprint straightaway and numbering lanes. Things should be in place soon, though, giving the Wildcats a sparkling home for next season.

Here’s a look at where things stood Friday. (All photos by Mark Maloney)

A view from the grandstands, near the finish line, across the first curve shows a scoreboard and, further back, the safety cage where weight throws will take place.

Looking left from the finish-line area. The building next to the far curve will be used for equipment storage.

Coming out of the well-marked final curve, there is a notable absence of lanes to mark the beginning of the hurdles and 100-meter dash.

The finish-line area is, for now, missing a … finish line.

Tucked in the corner of the first curve is a press box.
